The Catalyst
Science and Life
In Chemistry, this means any substance that increases the rate of a reaction without itself being consumed. Or anything that increases the rate of a process.
In life, I define it as any man/woman, system or environment that brings out the best in people or propels people to become better than they were before.
There is also the negative influence of a catalyst, which is the opposite of its positive.
I watched a Coca-Cola advert some time ago on the Internet, titled: "Happiness starts with a smile." Where a man in a train caused a chain reaction of laughter. As the camera pans across the train, happiness and laughter were all over the faces of the people. While I watched it, it was a relieving moment and I caught myself lost in that happy reverie. Though it was an advert, the man became a catalyst of happiness and relief for his fellow passengers, and others like me who watched through the Internet.
We are called to be shining lights in darkness. To serve. To give. To increase. We are called to be catalysts - an inspiration, a role model, a mentor, a voice that our generation and even the next needs to hear to be strengthened in their journey. According to our areas of gifting, and according to the power that works in us.
It could be in areas of charity, kindness, peace, or in the wide world of Arts, Science, Technology etc.
Wherever you find your calling, be the catalyst - be the voice, the hands, the shoulder, be the eyes, the light and the leader who is willing to serve. Be the catalyst that propels change.
